We had a four day week, as Thursday was a holiday for the King’s birthday. It happened to be my birthday as well, so I really enjoyed having the day off. I don’t make a big deal out of my birthday, but I can’t remember the last time I had a birthday off.
I spent a lot of time this week working on a new website for Thailand’s best. The website is a resource for finding restaurants, hotels, events, and bars in Thailand. By signing up for a membership you receive a discount at participating businesses. The site also allows visitors to rate their experiences. Last week, I added content for the restaurant postings, this week I worked on hotel listings. Judging by the images they provided, most of the establishments are really beautiful- there are a lot of extremely picturesque beach side hotels.
One thing I don’t understand, is how addresses work in Thailand. Punching the business’s name and street address into google maps would often result in a dozen results spread over several miles. How does the post office operate in Thailand? On top of that, google has turned embedding a map on your website into a several step process. Not so bad for one, but pretty time consuming when you need to do 40 or 50 maps. All the restaurant and hotel posts are finished though, so hopefully we can proceed to the next step.
The payment form is finally in place for online donations, and some last minute images have been added, but overall the site is ready to go through the pre-going-live checklist. I’m excited to see it finished, as I’ve spent so much time working on it. Again, Camillian Home is a wonderful charity and I’d encourage everyone to look them up and consider making a donation.
I also handed over the images and content I had been accumulating for a new student worksheet to Singh. Hopefully, the next class of Intermediate Web Design students will be able to use the worksheet to build a website for a fictitious restaurant.
Abhi was away this past week, so I couldn’t personally hound him with questions- although he did check in through email and chat.
I’m sure this upcoming week will involve more work on Thailand’s Best, and possibly a hand in some additional agency projects. I feel that I should really make the time to write an article for the school as well.
So, onto week 10.
